Overview

Brazil is among the world’s most ethnically diverse countries. It is currently home to 247 different indigenous peoples (speaking only of those formally recognized by the state) and more than 150 vernacular languages. This course sets out to introduce the history, the cultures and societies of Amerindian peoples living in Brazil, exploring their cosmologies and perspectives on nature and society, their forms of political organization and their relationships with the Brazilian national society.
