Course Description
Study of film production in relation to literature in Latin America.

OBJETIVOS
1. Establecer las diferencias esenciales entre el discurso literario y el discurso fílmico y sus implicaciones en la adaptación del texto a la pantalla.

2. Analizar la situación histórica, los valores estéticos y existenciales de la literatura y el cine en América Latina, haciendo énfasis en la renovación cultural cinematográfica a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XX y su relación constante con la literatura.

3. Conocer, a partir de las muestras literarias y cinematográficas, las principales características de la cultura, los valores y la realidad latinoamericana, en cuanto a la visión de los autores y realizadores latinoamericanos.

4. Generar análisis tanto escritos como orales sobre los temas tratados.

OBJECTIVES
1. Establish the essential differences between literary discourse and film discourse and their implications of the adaptation of text on the screen.

2. Analyze the historical situation, the aesthetic and existential values of literature and cinema in Latin America, emphasizing on the cultural renewal film from the second half of the twentieth century and their continuing relationship with literature.

3. Recognize literary and film samples, the main characteristics of the culture, values and the Latin American reality as the vision of Latin American authors and filmmakers.

4. Stimulate oral and written analysis on subjects seen in class.

DINÁMICA
Este curso se llevará a cabo a través de una clase participativa, basada en el análisis y la discusión de las temáticas y de los tópicos fílmicos y literarios estudiados en la clase y observados en las películas analizadas. En algunos casos, se leerá algún texto que interese contrastar con el análisis fílmico.

1. Las diferentes temáticas extraídas de la vanguardia europea.

Audience
This course is structured for International Students attending the Study Abroad program at Universidad Veritas. However, courses are not exclusive to foreigners so a few native student could enroll in this course. Attendance Students are only allowed 2 absences (justified or not). The student will fail the course if he/she has more than 2 absences. Students will have a 0 on any assignment evaluated in class (presentations, evaluations, field trips, etc.) if he/she is absent in this class, unless an official document is presented to justify the absence the class after the absence. In this case the assignment will be done this day. You can only have two total absences in your elective courses HOWEVER, if you miss more than one day of class in a given month, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT for that particular course. Behavior Professors have the right to expel a student from the classroom should he / she:

1) be disruptive in the classroom
2) be under the influence of alcohol or even smell like alcohol
3) Behave in a disrespectful way.
If you tend to be late for class, you will lose 25% of your total grade D.
