Mission Work

London Ministry*

While abroad, students will be partnered with a Mission Mentor who will help them get involved with ministry opportunities and connect them with a local church and the Christian community in London. Students will meet regularly with their Mission Mentor for prayer, reflection, and spiritual accountability; the spiritual support and opportunities will make their time abroad transformational!

In London, students will participate in intercity ministry throughout London with Mission Mentors Dr. Michael & Susan Goodman, to evangelize and serve these communities through food banks and opportunities alike.

The International Mission/Service-Learning Practicum will enhance and help students internalize their experience, and provides a great opportunity to reinforce cross-cultural missions, and earn college credit. The course formalizes the student's 7-10 hours of ministry including: reflection activities, journal entries, and cultural research.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity to study abroad in London this summer. I was excited about the opportunity to do mission work while abroad. My mission mentor in London, Shay, was relatable and easy to talk to. She was great working with my class and activity schedule and I was able to work at the food bank on Monday afternoons and participate in sports day at St. James Park. I have worked in food banks back home serving food but in London, we worked in a warehouse sorting food by expiration date. This made me realize how much goes into getting the food out and how much of what items get donated. We spent hours organizing rice one afternoon by the month it expired. I thought our ministry there was effective because as food gets donated, the newer donations have a later expiration date and if they get used first other donations could expire before they get used. I understand the work that goes into running a food bank and the importance of volunteering to help those organizations run effectively. The sports days were fun because it was a chance to connect with other missionaries or other study abroad students in the area and also invite other friends to come play. I enjoyed the opportunity to spend time in one of London’s famous parks while also connecting with other people doing mission work in London.

I am glad I got the chance to get to know Shay during my time in London. She was always real with us about actual struggles of being a young Christian woman and trying to have daily quiet time while on a busy college schedule. I asked Shay her opinion on ministry abroad and other religions and we were able to have meaningful conversations about how we felt about issues. Shay really inspired me to take time daily to have a quiet time and go through the bible on my own. I enjoyed talking about being a college student and Christian with someone who had been in my place not too long ago and realized the impact that had on her college experience.  I feel like I learned a lot about myself and a lot about ministry while in London that I will carry out in my life back home."
