Children with different learning needs in mainstream schools are catered for under the auspices of Special and Inclusive Education. The field encompasses a broad range of varied requirements and this module raises awareness of these children, examines their specific learning needs and evaluates approaches to understanding their learning and providing appropriate support. The module complements others in the Special and Inclusive Education strand on the BA/BSc Education programme. The module addresses the concerns of teachers, parents, policymakers and pupils who would like to see educational provision better match the needs of individual learners. Among the topics covered are: children with dyslexia; children with sensory impairment(s); ?high ability?; autistic behaviours and learning in high functioning children; social and emotional needs of atypically developing children.
