The idea of a religion of reason is the focus of this module, seeking to present the central issues of the academic study of the philosophy of religion in overview. The module aims to develop a critical understanding of the relevant domain of issues from the traditional European approach to reason in religion since the late Middle Ages to contemporary interpretations. Examples will be drawn from a broad survey of religious traditions and may also feature approaches to the philosophy of religion from Judaic, Islamic, Sikh, Buddhist or Hindu perspectives. The module will serve as a basis for advanced conceptual study in philosophy, religion and theology.
