This module introduces students to contemporary debates about urban life, and in particular, debates concerning multi-ethnicity and cultural pluralism in the modern city. Migration has become a major political issue in Britain and other members of the European Community and has been closely related to debates about 'ethnic minorities'. Since students often come from urban neighbourhoods across Britain and many will have travelled to urban centres across the world during holidays, this module will build on their experience by focusing on how migration impacts on cities across the world and paying particular attention to one of the leading global cities, London.
