Assessment: portfolio of creative work in all four forms taught (2000 words max.) [70%], critical reflection of the written work (1500 words) [30%] [both components must be attempted; an overall pass is required]
This module expands on the focus of Introduction to Creative Writing 1 by examining language in both personal and social contexts. Students continue to write in ?flash? forms of fiction, poetry, screenwriting and nonfiction while practicing new writing techniques intended to deepen their engagement: imagery and figurative language, defamilarisation and positionality, subtext and close reading. The module will introduce the process of research for writers. Introduction to Creative Writing 2 encourages the integration of creative writing with other social discourses, including the cultural ?languages? of differing ethnic groups, genders and social classes. Along with the module?s practical focus on writing, students will also consider a career writer?s opportunities within the arts industries.
