Social theory forms the foundation of a sociological education. Theory provides social science students with a framework for whatever they may wish to do with the discipline. This is not an introductory module, but builds on the knowledge and understanding of social theory provided by SOC020C113 (level HE1) and SOC020N221 (level HE2). The previous theory modules will have introduced students to the classical sociological tradition (Marx, Weber, and Durkheim) as well as a range of contemporary sociological perspectives. This module will give students an opportunity to re-visit and re-think these systems of thought at a deeper level. The main purpose of the module is to get students thinking for themselves about problems in social theory.
