This module covers the metaphysical and epistemological thought of great philosophers of the 17th and 18th. The rationale of this unit is for the student to gain knowledge of the leading philosophers and philosophical positions of the early modern period. The Modern Period began with the work of thinkers such as Galileo, Bacon and Descartes. The Early Modern Period is characterised by two leading schools of thought: Rationalism and Empiricism. Students on this module will examine arguments and theories from leading rationalists and empiricists from the Early Modern Period.
