Veritas Courses

Students have the option to enroll in the 1-3 credit Veritas International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum and/or the 3 credit Veritas course. If studentas choose to enroll in either or both courses they will pay the following fee for an additional transcript from California Baptist University. 

Additional California Baptist Transcript Fee = $300

NOTE: Fee is per term not per course.
Both Veritas courses are optional.

 

International Mission/Service-Learning Practicum (1-3 Credits)

ALL Veritas Students have the opportunity to earn 1-3 college credits for the International Missions/Service-learning Practicum (IMSP).  Students that choose to receive credit will receive a transcript from California Baptist University and pay Veritas the transcript fee listed above.

The practicum will enrich the program and mission experience through reflection assignments, research, and journaling. Participation is required in order to enhance the mission experience. Students will receive one credit upon completing the assignments and service participation. Students may elect to submit a log of hours for up to two additional credits. (Download syllabus here).

 

Cross-Cultural Leadership (3 credits)

Depending on enrollment, students will have the option to take a 3 credit course ONLY available to Veritas students.  ONLY available for semester programs.

This course examines the impact of culture on concepts of leadership, values, expectations, and patterns of communication to demonstrate the importance of leading with cultural sensitivity and to assist students in developing their own strategies for effectively communicating and negotiating with individuals from varied cultures; especially when it relates to a cross-cultural ministry perspective. Study is also devoted to the development and current conditions of minority/majority relations through the study of socio-political and economic causes; consequences of prejudice and discrimination; stereotypes and realities. (Download syllabus here)

Cross-Cultural Engagement Certificate & Badge Program 

The ISA-Veritas Cross-Cultural Engagement Certificate has been designed to recognize the activities and achievements you complete on your program while encouraging professional and spiritual development. All students have the opportunity toearn the Cross-Cultural Engagement Certificate upon completion of the Leadership, Cultural Explorer and Storyteller badges. This is an alternative credit and does not come on the California Baptist Transcript mentioned above. 

*There is no additional charge for the Certificate & Badge Program and is automatically included in every Veritas program.

  • Course Selection
    • Eligibility for courses may be subject to a placement exam and/or prerequisites
    • The courses below reflect the most current list of courses
    • Course availability is based on enrollment numbers. All students should seek pre-approval for alternate courses in the event of last-minute class cancellations
    • Requests for sample syllabi can be made to the Peru Site Specialist.
    • Spanish language courses require the purchase of a language textbook at an additional cost. Many courses have a field trip component, which also comes at an additional cost. Contact the Peru Site Specialist for more information.
  • Modular Language Classes
    • Beginning and Intermediate Spanish Language classes are modular meaning students may progress through two courses in a semester.
    • Beginning Spanish I and Intermediate Spanish I language courses will run during the first half of the semester
    • Beginning Spanish II and Intermediate Spanish II language courses start during the second half of the semester
    • Advanced Spanish will last for the entire semester
  • Course Credit
    • According to ISA policy, students must maintain full-time enrollment status, as determined by their home institutions, for the duration of the program. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student’s home university.
  • Transcripts
    • Although students study at the ISA Study Center in Cusco, their transcript will be from the Universidad de Salamanca and will reflect contact hours for each course listed below. Please be in touch with your home university regarding credit transfer for this program.
