Spring 1 2019: Language, Literature & Culture (January 25, 2019 - May 4, 2019)Catalog Code: VCSS1119
Semester students will take
- 3-4 courses at the USCIC. Modular language classes may also be taken*.
- International Missions Practicum required
- Cross-Cultural Leadership Required when minimum enrollment is met.
*Modular Language Classes
Beginning and Intermediate Spanish Language classes are modular. Students may progress through two courses in a semester. Beginning Spanish II and Intermediate Spanish II language courses will start midway into the semester.
Veritas Courses
Cross-Cultural Leadership (3 credits)
This course examines the impact of culture on concepts of leadership, values, expectations, and patterns of communication to demonstrate the importance of leading with cultural sensitivity and to assist students in developing their own strategies for effectively communicating and negotiating with individuals from varied cultures. Studies are also devoted to the development and current conditions of minority/majority relations through the study of socio-political and economic causes; consequences of prejudice and discrimination; stereotypes and realities. International Missions/Service Learning Practicum (1-3 credits)
The practicum will enrich the program and mission experience through reflection assignments, research, and journaling. Participation is required in order to enhance the mission experience. Students will receive one credit upon completing the assignments and service participation. Students may elect to submit a log of hours for up to two additional credits. (Download syllabus here)
