As an ISA-Veritas student at the University of Stirling, you will have access to courses from many different subject areas. Students can select courses from a wide offering of modules (courses). Classes are taught by university professors and the courses are with locals and other international students.


Program Highlights:
  • US-Style medium size campus in the lush heart of Scotland
  • Pedestrian friendly with frequent bus service into town. City center is two miles away from the university
  • Housing located on or near campus
  • Centrally located in Scotland with easy access to the cities in the south and the Highlands in the north
  • Known for its exceptional and very modern sporting facilities. The university has an athletic track, fitness suite, golf course, sports hall, tennis courts, pools, artificial pitches, squash courts, and so much more.
  • Strong course offerings in the following subjects: Sport Studies, Biological Sciences, English, History, Computer Science, Social Science, Humanities, and Business

Students will enroll in the following:

  • International Missions Practicum Veritas course (1-3 credits)
  • Global Missions Perspectives Veritas course required when minimum enrollment is met
  • Three courses (60 SCQF) at the University of Stirling

VERITAS COURSES

Participation in Veritas courses is required in order to enhance the Veritas experience.

Cross-Cultural Leadership (3 credits)

This course examines the impact of culture on concepts of leadership, values, expectations, and patterns of communication to demonstrate the importance of leading with cultural sensitivity and to assist students in developing their own strategies for effectively communicating and negotiating with individuals from varied cultures. Studies are also devoted to the development and current conditions of minority/majority relations through the study of socio-political and economic causes; consequences of prejudice and discrimination; stereotypes and realities. (Download syllabus here)

International Missions/Service Learning Practicum (1-3 credits)

The practicum will enrich the program and mission experience through reflection assignments, research, and journaling. Participation is required in order to enhance the mission experience. Students will receive one credit upon completing the assignments and service participation. Students may elect to submit a log of hours for up to two additional credits. (Download syllabus here)

Sample Courses

Course Credit

  • Credit transfer is ultimately determined by the student's home university.
  • Students studying at the University of Stirling are expected to take the full course load during their period of study. For a single semester, a full course load is equivalent to 60 SCQF units.
  • Each module is usually worth 20 SCQF, with the recommended equivalent being 5 US semester credits/module.
  • To meet the 60 SCQF credit requirement, students take 3 courses per semester.

Course Level Recommendations

  • ISA-Veritas offers course level recommendations for the courses listed below and in the University of Stirling course catalog. Please note that the course level recommendations are based on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework (SCQF) levels assigned to each course.
  • Level 8 courses are generally first year courses, level 9 are normally second-year courses which require some background knowledge, and level 10 courses are usually third and fourth-year courses which are at an advanced level and require a considerable background in the subject area.
