This course will apply contemporary theories of landscape archaeology to the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on the interpretation of primary landscape data. Case studies will be taken from across the Mediterranean, and from periods from the Palaeolithic to the Modern period.
This course will:
-investigate Mediterranean archaeological landscapes by means of a series of thematic case studies
-apply a range of archaeological landscape theories to specific cases
-carry out analyses of past landscapes using a range of sources and techniques (e.g. survey and excavation data, environmental data, historical documents, ethnographic accounts)
-develop an understanding of the processes of managing and interpreting landscape data (e.g. through databases and Geographic Information Systems)
