Overview

This course introduces the principles of hydrology and aspects of hydraulic modelling including the fundamentals of flow in open channels and pipe networks. The classification of flow criteria and the application of the conservation laws of mass and energy are described, together with their empirical approximations and relevance to the practice of engineering hydraulics. Students are introduced to a comprehensive understanding of hydraulic theory and encouraged to develop their engineering intuition and critical thinking skills through laboratory demonstrations and the use of appropriate computer software to facilitate the design of water engineering solutions.
