Overview

The module focuses on the impact of European economic penetration, political interference and Christian
missionary enterprise upon African societies during the nineteenth century, and the ways in which these
interacted with indigenous process of social and political change, with a view to explaining the ultimate
establishment of European colonial rule over most of the continent.
