Overview
This module draws on critical criminology, political-economy and historical perspectives to examine crimes committed by individuals in position of power and trust, including state and corporate officials. It will focus on the ways in which ‘the powerful’ manipulate their influence and authority for political and/or material gain. It will adopt a case study approach to investigating contemporary crimes of the powerful including white collar and corporate crime, state crime, and state-corporate crime. Some of the topics covered in the module include crimes against humanity, terrorism, human rights abuses; trafficking in human beings and corporate injury.
