Overview

This module explores and assess the contribution of feminists and feminism to the understanding and practice of international politics. Through reading and analysing key theoretical and empirical works considering their challenges and contributions to the discipline of IR and the conduct of international politics. The module begins with the context and the emergence of feminist voices in the discipline of International Relations. From there it engages key conceptual and methodological innovations of feminists and then critically considers their contributions to contemporary debates in the discipline in parallel with feminist practical interventions in world politics, on the topics of security and conflict, international political economy, international organisations, among other themes. The module will be taught in a manner that encourages active student participation and assessed solely through participation and coursework intended to facilitate active and deep modes of learning.
