Overview

Introduction
Build your physical therapy patient care skills on a foundation of the proven practices!! In addition to clear "how-to" information on everything from positioning and draping, to patient transfer and ambulation activities, the course?s easy-to-understand rationales will give you the "why" behind these proven techniques. This course is designed to assist students to gain or to improve their knowledge and skills to benefit both the caregiver and the patient during patient care activities. This course provides many concepts, procedures, and techniques of patient care that are used in the clinics by health care professionals. Students enrolled in programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing can benefit the most from this course.
 
Course Objectives
1. Students will be able to learn basic principles, skills, and procedures for patient care activities.
2. Students will be able to learn proper body mechanics to be used when lifting, reaching, pushing, and carrying objects.
3. Students will be able to perform properly guard and protect a person during the performance of a transfer.
4. Students will be able to describe the expected normal and abnormal changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration rate.
