Course Description
This is a first-year level introductory course to linguistics which provides a general overview of the field. Students will explore how the English language is structured, developed, and used by studying its characteristics and history as well as by examining various phenomena related to its use around the world. This course aims not only to prepare students for university linguistic courses but to interest them in the study of English linguistics.

Course Objectives
By the end of the semester, students will
(1) gain knowledge of the structure of the English language;
(2) acquire subject-specific skills including basic linguistic terminology;
(3) attain study skills needed for the study of language.
