Overview

Introduction
Identification and classification of metamorphic rocks. Introduction to metamorphic petrogenesis. Introduction to hand specimens of metamorphic rocks and their protoliths and use of petrographic microscope for identifying and describing metamorphic minerals and rocks.

Course Objectives
Students will learn how and in which type of tectonic environments the major types of metamporhic rocks form and basic principles of metamorphic petrology/petrogenesis; how to examine, describe and identify metamorpphic rocks and rock-forming minerals in hand specimen and thin section.
