Overview

Course Objectives:
We always encounter a variety of chemical transformations in natural and
engineering systems. To quantitatively probe into the phenomenon, the topics to
be covered in this course include the chemical principles of thermodynamics,
chemical equilibrium, and kinetics. With the basic knowledge, this course will
deal with acid-base, complexation, precipitation-dissolution, and reductionoxidation
reactions.

Policy:
Failure to attend an exam on time is recorded as a zero except when it is
unavoidable because of legitimate emergency. In such a case, it is desired that
the instructor be contacted before the exam. Adjustment of an exam score will be
made only within one week after the exam is returned to the students. No extra
work will be provided for students wishing to improve their grade.
