Overview

Course Objectives
This class is designed to provide guidance and experience in delivering effective oral presentations to a range of audiences. Various types of presentations will be introduced, and students will practice the structure and delivery of at minimum four (TV News, PPT, mock job interview, Toastmasters). Particular attention will be placed on improving audience-connecting oral skills—appropriate volume, intonation, gestures, etc—to appropriately target an audience and convey confidence, authority, and trust. Active participation is required. Objectives of a successful learner are:

  1. Enhance oral communication skills necessary for functioning beyond the classroom
  2. Analyze and practice the structure, content, and delivery of different types of oral presentations
  3. Develop strategies and techniques for designing audience-targeted presentations
  4. Experience planning, organizing, and delivering speeches & PowerPoint presentations
  5. Gain confidence in handling audience-generated question-and-answer sessions
  6. Enhance awareness of your verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  7. Discuss and negotiate all classroom communications via the medium of English
