Guyton and Hall “Textbook of Medical Physiology, 13th Edition” available through the bookstore or online, in physical or electronic formats.

 

DESCRIPTION

Studies how excitable tissue, nerves and muscles, and the cardiovascular and respiratory systems work. Focuses on understanding mechanisms and includes an intro to structure, an emphasis on quantitative function, and integration of hormonal and neural regulation and control.

 

LEARNING GOALS

• Learn the fundamental knowledge and concepts of human physiology necessary for the practice of biomedical engineering.
• Take a quantitative, engineering-based approach to understanding these concepts.
• Relate biological, physiological, and engineering concepts to the etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of human diseases that are, in the end, the practical application of that knowledge.
