Veritas Christian Study Abroad in Seoul, South Korea

Seoul is both the largest city and capital of South Korea. As one of the top financial centers and most prosperous cities in the world, Seoul has the third-largest subway system and the fastest internet connections. At the same time, Seoul still maintains its distinctive culture, traditional social values and historic landmarks. Seoul is one of the QS Best Student Cities 2016 – a ranking of the world’s leading urban destinations for international students.

Korea University

Known as one of Seoul's "SKY Universities," similar to the "Ivy League" in the U.S., Korea University is a world-class institution featuring a dynamic educational environment, beautiful and conveniently located campus, and top-quality student facilities. It prides itself not only on being a progressive and globally conscious institution, but also one that plays a role in preserving and developing Korean culture.  Korea University is ranked 104th in the QS world ranking.

Language Requirment: NONE (open to all language levels)

Academic Overview for Korea University

With 40% of the courses at Korea University are taught in English, students can choose from a wide variety of classes in Art & Design, Education, Engineering, Information & Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication, Liberal Arts, Political Science, Technology, etc., when participating this semester program. Korea University's Business School is the first business school accredited both by AACSB & EQUIS in Korea.

  • Students will take one Veritas course along with courses taught in English at Korea University.
  • Courses are taught in English except for Korean language courses which are available for students with a beginning through advanced level of proficiency. All students who enroll in a higher level language course are required to take a placement exam upon arrival to determine appropriate language proficiency.
  • Courses will be taught by local and international faculty. Fellow Korea University classmates are both Korean and international students.
  • Course availability and registration are determined on site.
  • Upon program completion, students will receive a transcript from Korea University.

Semester Programs (Spring, Fall & Academic Year)

Students are required to maintain fulltime student status during their programs, including:

  • One Veritas course: Global Mission Perspectives required
    • (45 contact hours/3 semester credits; taught by Veritas professor)
  • International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum required
    • (1-3 semester credits; facilitated by Veritas Mission Mentor)
  • Other courses at Konkuk University to maintain fulltime student status

Summer Programs

Students will enroll in the following:

  • Two courses at Korea University required
  • International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum required
    • (1 semester credit; facilitated by Veritas Mission Mentor)

Eligibility

Students must meet the following requirements to attend Korea University:

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (firm)
  • Students must have completed 2 semesters at their home university before they can apply for a semester program (confirmed by university transcript). Freshmen may apply for a summer program.
  • Students must have a valid passport by the application due date to receive visa paperwork from Korea University.

Admissions Requirements:

In addition to the standard Veritas application materials, all students must submit the following for acceptance into the Seoul Academic Year, Fall, or Spring programs (not applicable for summer):

  • Letter of recommendation from academic reference (on university letterhead)
  • Letter of intent: personal statement describing the student's goals for studying abroad (minimum 500 words)
  • Passport Copy
  • Health Clearance Form (found in your Veritas student portal)
  • Passport-style photograph (uploaded to your Veritas student portal)
  • TB test

Academic Credit

Credits earned may vary according to the policies of the student's home institution. For visa regulations, and according to Veritas Christian Study Abroad policy, students must maintain full-time enrollment status for the duration of the program, as determined by their home institution. Students may be required to obtain a student visa and should inquire with the corresponding consulate.
