Overview

Assessment: case study (2000 words)
This module begins with a critical understanding of the host/parasite relationship. A system based approach is used to examine infectious disease of the respiratory, uro-genital and gastro-intestinal tracts, skin and central nervous system, and to discuss opportunistic infections of the compromised host. Pathogenic mechanisms are discussed using selected microbial species as examples. Diagnostic procedures and strategies for prevention and treatment of infectious disease are covered.
