The course is intended to provide a broad introduction to the salient aspects of contemporary higher education by examining curent isues, trends and developments from a variety of perspectives, including historical, administrative, public policy etc. The major learning objectives of the course are: (1) To provide an overview of diverse instiutional and environmental factors which influence higher education; (2) To familarize students with the literature and terminology of higher education;(3) To develop critcal skils necesary for the analysis and evaluation of important higher education isues; and (4) To enhance writen and verbal communication skils necesary for efective
communication and leadership in a higher education seting.
Textbok and Other Reading Materials
No textbok for this course is required. Each clas sesion has asigned readings which were carefuly selected from journal articles or bok chapters. Al the required readings are available on-line on the KUPID course site. The clas wil use relevant newspaper/journal materials available on the internet (e.g., English newspapers in Korea; The Chronicle of Higher Education in the U.S.). In aditon, students who are interested in higher education isues around the world may wish to reference "Forest, J. & Altbach, P. (207). International Handbok of Higher Education. Part One: Global Themes and Contemporary Chalenges. Springer." This bok is available in the library and in my ofice.
* KUPID( wil be the primary medium for course communication, posting
of asignments, and aces to suplemental readings. Students wil be expected to
check email and KUPID on a regular basis.
