Course Descriptions:
This course sketches out a conceptual map for the students of English language of the
complex relationship among language, society and culture. It provides an overview of
the main features of social study of language. The scope of this course covers social
usages of English language, structure of conversation and social application of
linguistic study.

Course Objectives:

  • Students will understand the relations between language and society.
  • Students will learn basic concepts of sociolinguistics and pragmatics to understand various genres and styles of English.
  • Students will be able to reflect on social meaning of English use.
  • Students will present their ideas based on the theoretical understanding of the course subjects.
