Overview

This course will help learners understand how to select, adapt, and use texts by applying a variety of techniques used for listening, reading and speaking activities. It will involve a number of hands-on activities and some practical small group teaching opportunities. Students will be asked to reflect on what they have learned regularly and to keep these notes for their written reports. For each technique learners will select a text from the course notes to adapt and use to create a lesson.

Course Objectives

  • To help learners select appropriate texts based on pedagogical principles.
  • To help plan coherent lessons based around a text they have selected or adapted.
  • To learn a range of core language teaching techniques and apply them to chosen materials or particular texts.
  • Students reflect on new techniques/activities and work together to identify the benefits/ problems involved with applying those techniques to texts
  • To enable students to see how lessons can be more comprehensible for learners when texts are used for a range of learning activities based on the same text/topic.
  • Students read articles and improve their knowledge regarding language teaching
