This course will provide an overview of the linguistic structure, comparing English with Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and discuss the relevant analyses of a certain structure.  Based on the readings of the text, we will discuss the adequacy of the analyses including the generalizations and consider expanded sets of data.  This course touches on the different aspects of linguistics, from language background, genetic affiliation, historical development, dialect, lexicon, writing system, sound pattern, morphology, syntax, language and gender, language society, to sociolinguistics. The caviar of this course is to compare English with Korean, Japanese and Chinese from many linguistic perspectives.
