Assessment: essay (2500 words) [60%], report (1500 words) [40%]
The aim of this module is to provide a general overview of criminological perspectives and issues, with an aim to inculcate students with the complexities of definitions of crime and criminal justice. The perspectives and research areas will be on a basic level located in historical, social and political context and their policy application. The module will also add to the inculcation of core skills such as reading, writing, and communication. Topics may include: classicism and positivism; social positivism; deviance, labelling and moral panics; realism, women and crime; race and crime; capitalism and crime; city, community and crime; globalisation and crime.
