Overview

Assessment: group report [70%], presentation [30%]
The unprecedented pace of change to which organisations have been subjected to over the last three decades has resulted in changes in organisational structure, business processes, roles and responsibilities, new distribution channels, greater use of IT, etc. In most cases this transformation has been achieved by treating the desired change as a project. Projects typically account for 50% of all work carried out and are non-repetitive activities with applicability across all organisations. Project management is an important organisational activity relevant to all professions and all profit and non-profit organisations. This module identifies the importance of project management; it examines the rather special skill-set required by a project manager and project team members to bring projects to a successful conclusion. The module covers project management in sufficient theoretical and practical depth to enable students to develop the necessary skills to apply the knowledge gained in other modules and in their chosen career.
