The narrative for the module centres on understanding social change. Sociology emerged in the context of social upheaval where the need to understand changes were paramount. The first part of the module therefore considers the work of sociologists who considered changes in society as a whole while the latter part centres on how those changes affected the understanding of people and gave rise to questions of identity.
