Ministry Opportunities

While abroad, students will be partnered with a Veritas Mentor who will help them get involved with ministry opportunities and connect them with a local church and the Christian community in Cusco. Students will meet regularly with their Mentor for prayer, reflection, and spiritual accountability; the spiritual support and opportunities will make their time abroad transformational!

Ministry opportunities in Cusco can include serving at Club Corason with children’s ministry, a feeding program for the children, or an ecological program; serving as a barista at a coffee shop; helping with deep cleaning projects at a local church; and helping with a craft and tutoring ministry for girls.

Club Corason has a kid’s club Tuesday to Friday afternoons. Depending on the day, the children do a variety of activities that students can help with including free/play time, Bible club, English class, and hands-on experiential learning activities such as learning to cook, doing crafts, learning a new sport, etc. Students will help facilitate these activities and can also help plan the week’s activities with the volunteer coordinator at the planning meeting each Tuesday. In the early afternoons Mondays to Fridays, students help prepare food with the cooks, set up the lunchroom, serve the food, and eat with the children. The ecological program has flexible days and hours, helping the pastor of Corason work in the church garden. The food from the garden is used for the feeding program, and the other plants are being used to eliminate erosion on the mountain side where the church is located. The Pastor is trying to re-introduce native plant species to the area.

In addition, students can help as a barista at a coffee shop called The Meeting Place: making and serving drinks, serving food, washing dishes, restocking, cleaning tables, and helping in the kitchen. Another flexible opportunity is helping a local church, Calvary Chapel Church, do deep cleaning that does not get done during the weekly cleaning such as dusting, washing walls, organizing things, painting, etc. This is the church that the mission mentor serves at. Finally, through a girl’s ministry, La Casa Verde, students can help with crafts and tutoring for girls Tuesday afternoons. The mission mentor is involved with this ministry as well. Students can help come up with a craft for the girls to do and then help them do the craft. Students can also help develop or lead a short devotional.
